TAWAU: A man who fell from the fifth floor of a shopping complex and landed on the roof of a vehicle at Jalan Kuhara here is in critical condition.
The man, who is in his 50s, suffered multiple fractures to his hands and legs and apparently survived the fall due to the impact on the “softer” landing of the car roof driven by a woman at 12.15pm Monday (Jan 27).
The shocked car driver was not hurt by the incident but was apparently shaken as she had stopped in front of the mall to pick up a passenger, according to eyewitnesses.
Members of the public at the scene immediately notified the police of the incident.
The man, who is believed to be of unsound mind, was sent to the Tawau Hospital for further medical attention.
Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said they were investigating the incident.
He said his officers would be recording the statements from the victim, medical officers and eyewitnesses.
