Mat Hasan: Disastrous if PSS holders allowed to enter the peninsula

KIMANIS POLLS | It will be disastrous for the government to allow the Sabah migrants to enter Peninsular Malaysia with the Sabah Temporary Pass (PSS), Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said.
"If this is going to happen, then it is a disaster. What has the temporary pass to do with the peninsula?
"PSS (only involves) the Sabah state government and the state immigration. Under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), immigration is under the jurisdiction of Sabah (state government)," Mohamad (photo) said.

Similarly, he said, Sabah's citizenship also comes under the authority of the state government.
"For them to allow PSS holders to enter Peninsular Malaysia, I think this is a matter that must be considered in-depth.
"As a citizen, I feel inferior as I can only stay in Sabah for three months but the PSS holders can stay up to three years and they can renew the pass.
"What is the point? The government needs to do a thorough survey before making a decision. It will be difficult to U-turn later," cautioned Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Hasan.
When asked what will happen if the PSS holders come to the peninsula, he said: "(I wish) best of luck to Malaysia."
On Jan 15, Deputy Home Minister and Warisan Youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman (above) said PSS holders are allowed to travel to the peninsula and spend a maximum of one month with permission from the Immigration Department.
“(Permission can be considered) based on certain reasons and issues, for example, if someone needs medication in the peninsula," he said.
In September, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the implementation of PSS in June 2020.
The holders of IMM13, Burung-burung cards and census certificates will have their documents converted to the PSS.
The Sabah opposition parties, civil society, and the people raised concerns about the new policy, which will benefit 136,055 holders of the IMM13, Burung-burung cards and census certificates.
Despite the government repeatedly saying PSS holders will not be granted citizenship, the fear on the ground remains that PSS is the backdoor citizenship for the 136,055 holders and their family members, totalling 600,000 people.
BN has been harping aggressively on the PSS issue during the 14 days of the Kimanis by-election campaign. Tomorrow is the voting day for the by-election.
The by-election was called after the Election Court voided the 14th general election Kimanis result on grounds that the Election Commission (EC) failed to comply with election procedures.
Umno's Anifah Aman had won Kimanis with a razor-thin 156-vote majority in the last general election.
Umno is represented by Mohamad Alamin, who is contesting under BN's banner, while Karim Bujang is representing Warisan. - Mkini
