PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is prepared to appoint prominent Morrocan scholar Ahmad al-Raysuni as an international reference in implementing the principles of maqasid shariah (higher objectives of the law).
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Raysuni was qualified based on his works focusing on the issue of maqasid shariah.
“I feel an Islamic administration agency must take the opportunity to listen to his views and opinions academically on maqasid shariah,” he said.
He welcomed Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin’s move to appoint Raysuni as visiting professor, adding that it would enable the government to refer to him on implementing the maqasid shariah concept in the administration.
Mujahid said Raysuni emphasised on prioritising the public good in implementing laws and in administrative decisions.
