No request from cops to undergo polygraph test: Anwar

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today said there has been no request from the police for him to undergo a polygraph test as part of the ongoing investigations into a sexual complaint filed against him by a former research assistant.
"So why make this an issue? You also understand the principles of law and justice.
"Anybody can cast aspersions or allegations (but) if there's no basis, you can't get the person to be too defensive on these issues," Anwar (above) told reporters after addressing an international conference in Kuala Lumpur.
He said this when asked whether police had formally requested for him to undergo the lie detector test.

Yusoff Rawther (below), who lodged the complaint against Anwar, had as part of the ongoing police investigations underwent the procedure at Bukit Aman last month.
Anwar said there was also no basis to calls for him to undergo the polygraph test.
"There is no basis. There must be evidence and a need for it," he said in pointing that an absence of such grounds would render the whole exercise as pointless.
"If I accuse you of robbing, and ask you to undergo a polygraph test, that doesn’t make sense.
"So there must be a basis in doing it," he stressed.
Yusoff lodged a police report on Dec 7 pressing for action after unveiling a statutory declaration that he made about Anwar.
In the declaration, the 26-year-old claimed he had been a victim of molestation, indecent exposure and indecent proposals by Anwar at the latter’s Segambut home more than a year ago on Oct 2, 2018.
Anwar denied the allegations.
The police are now probing the case under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which concerns assault or the use of criminal force with the intent to outrage someone’s modesty.
Yusoff was previously questioned twice before he was asked to take a polygraph test last Dec 17.
Police have since recorded statements from a total of eight witnesses.
Anwar has been questioned, and the police have visited his Segambut residence as part of the probe. - Mkini
