Overwhelming response on first day of RM30 e-Tunai initiative, mobile apps report heavy traffic

PETALING JAYA: Touch n' Go eWallet and Boost service providers experienced overwhelming response over the RM30 e-Tunai Rakyat initiative, causing heavy traffic on their mobile applications.
Both providers assured users that services will resume back to normal after they increase their capacity to cope with the heavy traffic.
"As of noon, on Jan 15, our app has increased its capacity to process the increasing user traffic and seeing a higher success rate in the number of claimants.
"We truly appreciate your patience as our team is working effortlessly to assure that our app is back to its optimal efficiency phase in the quickest time possible.
"We hope Malaysians will continue supporting us now and in the future as we bring value through the many rewarding campaigns planned for everyone on this cashless journey with us," said Touch 'n Go e Wallet in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 15).
The claims for the e-Tunai Rakyat initiative kicked off today with Touch 'n Go eWallet, Boost and GrabPay selected to be the service providers for the project.
Meanwhile, Boost CEO Mohd Khairil Abdullah said it received encouraging response to the Government's e-Tunai Rakyat initiative, with users trying to claim their share of the incentive through Boost.
"The Boost app and e-Tunai Rakyat claims mechanism are up and running smoothly and users can use our e-wallet to claim their RM30 with no issues. We will also be offering a cash prize of up to RM8,888 as an additional reward to those who submit the claim with Boost," he said.
He added that the claim process will be completed within five working days following the National Registration Department and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) eligibility checks.
"Each user can only claim from one e-wallet. This procedure is standard across all three e-wallets involved in the e-Tunai Rakyat initiative," he said.
Many users have complained of delays in applying for their e-wallet.
Malaysians aged 18 and above and who earn less than RM100,000 annually will be eligible to receive RM30 each through any of the participating e-wallets.
The RM30 can be used to purchase goods and services available through the respective e-wallet of their choice. The initiative will run for two months from Jan 15 to March 14,2020. - Star
