Police officer charged in court, media booted out

A police officer was brought to the Magistrate's Court in Shah Alam today following a complaint by a man claiming that documents were falsified in a drug case the latter was involved in.
However, before the officer could be charged, deputy public prosecutor Nur Shazwanie asked the court to empty the room of any persons not involved in the case, including the media.
She said this is because the case dealt with sensitive matters.
Magistrate Hanie Dzatul Akhmar Zulkefli then ordered the courtroom the be emptied. Also booted out was the complainant Romzi Mamat.

It is understood that the officer was then charged under Section 465 of the Penal Code for forgery, which carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both.
Romzi, who was accompanied by his lawyer Mohd Taqiyuddin Yahya, was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act for possession of drugs.
According to him, several pieces of evidence in the case had disappeared and some of the documents handed over to the defence in February 2018 were falsified, prompting him to lodge a police report.
A police report lodged by Romzi at the time stated that several documents bore a forged signature, including on the acknowledgement certificate that he had submitted a urine sample.
In a separate police report in May 2018, Romzi claimed that he was informed by an investigating officer from Shah Alam in April that the investigation papers could not be completed as the urine sample acknowledgement certificate was not sent over by the Sungai Buloh police's narcotics unit.
Last December, three police officers from the Sungai Buloh district were investigated by the MACC for alleged extortion of a drug abuse suspect.
Kampung Sungai Buloh residents have also lodged reports over allegations that narcotics officers in the area were running an extortion operation. - Mkini
