Shafie Apdal: Apologise over 'Malaysia vs Philippines' remark or I'll sue

KIMANIS POLLS | Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal is threatening legal action against Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan for his claim that Warisan is a party from Philippines.
He told Mohamad to apologise to him over the remark.

Failing to do so, Shafie said he will sue the Umno leader for defamation.
"He said the by-election is Malaysia versus the Philippines. I have told my lawyer to send a letter to him," he told some 500-strong crowd at a Christmas and New Year celebration at Kuala Pus and Bongawan Estate in Kimanis.
"(I) want him to apologise. Falling so, I will summon him (in court)," he said.
"Where is Malaysiakini which made such an assumption? The Malaysian Insight, writes this," he said.
On Jan 5, Mohamad claimed to be informed by the locals that they see BN as representing Malaysia while Warisan the Philippines.
"People have told me, 'Datuk, those are all Filipinos, they are paid'... but I don't know. I am just repeating what they told me.
"What I know for sure is that Sabahans will change the Sabah Warisan state government," he had said.
Speaking with media later, Shafie said the Umno leader's statement had indicated that he was a Filipino.
"How can I be a Filipino? I am a Sabahan, I am a Malaysian. (If not) how can I be a deputy defence minister (from 1999 to 2004)? How can my uncle (Sakaran Dandai) be a state governor (from 1995 to 2002)?" he said.
"I have served the country for 30 years. Do not question my race and lineage," he said.
He said Umno and BN should not resort to tactics that would split the nation.
Meanwhile, he said he does not see the synergy between BN/Umno, former Kimanis MP Anifah Aman, and local opposition parties.
"We fought with them in the last election when they were so united. They are now divided and some of them went to Bersatu while others join PKR," he said.
"When they were united, we challenge and defeated them. Don't tell me now that we can't challenge and defeat them," he said.
Sabah BN chairperson and Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin said Anifah, as well as other opposition parties like PAS, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), were now campaigning for BN.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously said the Muafakat Nasional must be adopted in Sabah.
Shafie, however, was unfazed with the possible formation of Muafakat Nasional in Sabah.
"They can do whatever muafakat. Let them do it. I am sure Sabahans are not stupid and they know what they want," he said. - Mkini
