Chinese New Year is a cultural event celebrated by the Chinese to welcome a New Year. Every Malaysian ought to know this. It has NOTHING to do with religion.
It was reported that SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong 1 had decorated their school with Chinese New Year decoration to celebrate the coming Chinese New Year with permission.
Putra or Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia, a political party led by Ibrahim Ali had created a racial controversy by demanding the school to remove the decorations by claiming it as an attempt to propagate non-Islamic beliefs to Muslim students studying in that school.
The complaint was raised by Vice-President of Putra, lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz through the social media.
Mohd Khairul further claimed that these decorations contravened Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution (which addresses Islam's role as the "official" religion of the Federation of Malaysia).
The action by Mohd Khairul of Putra could have created a racial problem between the Chinese and the Malays, when the matter is a mere cultural and tradition event in Malaysia.
The authorities should immediately take swift action against Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz and Putra for almost creating a racial turmoil among the peace-loving Malaysian citizens. A apology at this juncture no longer suffice.
Can we see swift action from the authorities concerned? - Mohd. Kamal Abdullah
Hell No
