Syed Saddiq says Maszlee did well, but mum on resignation reason

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahmad has come to the defence of Maszlee Malik four days after the latter resigned as education minister.
Syed Saddiq (above, second right) believes that Maszlee had given good service when he held the portfolio.
"I personally think of Maszlee as a good friend and he is like a brother to me.
"He has served the country really well. And I know despite the turbulence, which he had to face, his heart was in the right place," he said.

"I had a very good relationship with him and I wish him all the best in his future pursuit," the Bersatu Youth chief told the media after launching the Pakatan Harapan Youth election machinery in Bongawan, Kimanis today.
Apart from Syed Saddiq, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad and Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh have also openly shown support for Maszlee.
Dzulkefly said Maszlee has weaknesses just like others in the cabinet, but he faced a tough challenge in handling his job especially when dealing with ethnic and religious issues.
Yeoh told off Penang Deputy Chief Minister (II) P Ramasamy for reportedly criticising the former education minister.
Ramasamy said Maszlee only focused on making small incremental improvements rather than look into policy matters to prepare students to meet global challenges.
Syed Saddiq, however, declined to confirm if Maszlee was asked to resign for going against the cabinet's decision on the teaching of Jawi in schools, free internet service for schools and the free breakfast programme for pupils.
"I think that is not for me to answer. I am not the prime minister," said Syed Saddiq.
On Jan 2, Maszlee announced his resignation without disclosing any reason.
The Malaysia Insight (TMI) reported today that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad instructed Maszlee to resign via a letter dated Dec 27.  - Mkini
