KIMANIS POLLS | Umno has reminded voters here against being influenced by Warisan's theatrics that they are a local party from Sabah with no ties to Pakatan Harapan.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan (above) claimed that Warisan's attempts to portray a distance with Harapan was due to the Peninsula-based party's purported poor performance.
He said this was in contrary to the fact that Warisan remains a strong ally of Harapan under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"If the Sabah Warisan state government says they have nothing to do with Harapan, that is a lie... they are playing politics.
"They are not a formal member of Harapan, but they are a strong supporter," he said.
"If they are not a part of Harapan then how come they can get three (federal) minister positions, and even the deputy minister post?" Mohamad told reporters when met on the campaign trail for BN's Mohamad Alamin (below, left) in Kimanis last night.
The Kimanis by-election is held following a Federal Court decision last Dec 2 to uphold a Kota Kinabalu Election Court's decision that nullified former minister Anifah Aman's GE14 victory.
'Malaysia vs Philippines'
BN's candidate is in a straight fight with Warisan's Karim Bujang (above, right) and Mohamad likened the face-off to one between Malaysia and Sabah's neighbour the Philippines.
He claimed to be informed by the locals that they see BN as representing Malaysia while Warisan is the Philippines.
"People have told me, 'Datuk those are all Filipinos, they are paid'... but I don't know. I am just repeating what they told me.
"What I know for sure is that Sabahans will change the Sabah Warisan state government," he said.
Commenting on BN's candidate, Mohamad said there was no reason for Kimanis voters to reject a young and charismatic candidate, capable of raising their voice in Parliament. - Mkini
