PETALING JAYA: WhatsApp is suffering an outage that prevents users from sending media files though they are still able to send messages.
On the DownDetector site, which detects service interruptions in real time, user reports of the outage started to spike at about 6.15pm.
The posts from users in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and the United States say they are unable to send images, as well as voice recordings.
DownDetector’s outage map shows that the users in Europe, especially in the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates and Singapore are the most affected.
Our initial tests show that it is possible to send messages, contacts and your location but not images and documents.
Voices messages work at times but take a longer time to reach. - Star
