KULAI: A blown tyre caused a bus to lurch into the divider, hitting a coconut tree and veering into the opposite lane, injuring eight passengers.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yow said the incident occurred along Jalan Senai at about 6.40am on Wednesday (April 29).
"We received a report from the traffic division regarding the accident.
"Initial investigations showed that the bus was carrying some 18 foreign workers to a factory when its left front tyre exploded," he said.
According to Supt Tok, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and veered to the opposite lane, but not before hitting a coconut tree on the divider.
Fortunately, the bus did not collide with any vehicle.
However, eight foreign workers suffered light injuries and were sent to nearby clinics to be treated.
The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In an unrelated incident which occurred at 8.24am the same day, firemen had to come to the rescue of a lorry driver who was trapped in his vehicle after an accident.
The incident occurred on KM25 of the PLUS Highway southbound and involved two lorries.
According to Kulai fire department chief, Mohd Khairi Zainudin, the three-ton lorry rammed the rear of a trailer, causing the cabin to compact and trap the driver.
"Eight of our men were needed to free the driver from the wreckage.
"The 31-year-old man suffered injuries to his legs and was sent to Hospital Kulai by ambulance," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 29). - Star
