1 mil vehicles on PLUS highways a day as traffic increases during CMCO

PLUS attributes the increase in traffic to movement of goods and also by people whose work involves interstate travel.
PETALING JAYA: Almost one million vehicles travelled along highways managed by PLUS Malaysia Berhad yesterday, the concessionaire said, following the increase in traffic with the implementation of the conditional movement control (CMCO) order.
PLUS chief of operations excellence Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz said the number of highway users before the MCO was enforced on March 18 was about 1.7 million each day.
This went down to only between 500,000 and 600,000 vehicles a day during the MCO period.
“But when the CMCO was imposed (on May 4) with several industries allowed to operate, the number of motorists along PLUS highways recorded an increase,” he told Bernama.
He attributed this to movement of goods from one state to another and also by people whose work involved interstate travel.
Meanwhile, PLUS managing director Azman Ismail said the highway concessionaire had stepped up operations to ensure the safety and comfort of motorists during the Aidilfitri festive season.
Bernama quoted him as saying in a statement that PLUS was collaborating with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to ensure emergency assistance and compliance of safety and other regulations at the main toll plazas.
Azman said about 2,900 PLUS personnel would be on duty during the festive period.
“We will be using drones to conduct air surveillance at strategic locations besides closing the toll lanes for prepaid reloads to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said. - FMT
