PETALING JAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says he is now the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, taking over the position previously held by Dr Mahathir Mohamad before PPBM left the coalition.
“I want to inform you that it is PH’s decision, I am now PH chairman and opposition leader.
“Although there were efforts by others to challenge for the position, this was the consensus reached in PH,” he said in a video posted on Facebook.
Anwar also defended the coalition’s decision to work again with Mahathir in the opposition bloc, acknowledging that netizens had criticised and questioned this.
He said as opposition leader, he represented all opposition MPs, including Mahathir and his faction from PPBM, as well as Warisan.
He maintained that what was important were the ideals of the coalition’s struggle and that the spirit of the reform agenda had not weakened.
He said the coalition would continue to champion the common folk and focus on the problems faced by the people.
“This is a return to the ideals of our struggles and the test is when we are in power,” he said. - FMT
