Cops probe ex-minister over 'worthless, rubbish' remarks on Dewan Rakyat sitting

Malaysiakini

Police are probing former Water, Land and Natural Resources minister Xavier Jayakumar over a video clip where he is heard saying that the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting would be "worthless" and "rubbish".
This was confirmed by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department D5 (prosecution and legal division) principal assistant director SAC Mior Faridalathrash Wahid to Malaysiakini today.
It is believed that 33 police reports have been lodged against the Kuala Langat MP for the alleged comment.
"We are probing him under the Sedition act," Mior said.
Under the Pakatan Harapan government, then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said that Putrajaya would abolish the controversial Act and replace it with a new law.
In the three-minute clip, Jayakumar (photo) was allegedly heard saying, "This Parliament will be rubbish. This Parliament sitting is worthless.
"We are going to be there for one hour to hear the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's speech, and after that asked to go home, all this under the pretext of Covid-19."
He explained that the government was afraid to face the Opposition lawmakers as well as the tabling of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
The one-day Parliament sitting had caused an uproar among the Opposition lawmakers who had demanded the sitting to take place up to eight days.
Putrajaya, however, insisted on the decision after taking into consideration the Covid-19 pandemic.
The sitting was held for one hour on May 18 with the only agenda being the Agong's address. - Mkini
