CORONAVIRUS | There were 40 new Covid-19 cases reported today, bringing the total number of cases to 6,819.
According to Health Ministry data, none of the new cases was imported.
The Health Ministry disclosed that 31 foreigners were among the new cases.
Eighteen of the new cases in the Federal Territory were all from one source - the Pudu market vicinity.
This cluster currently has 30 cases - all involving foreigners.
The Pedas, Negeri Sembilan cluster saw an increase of 10 cases. This cluster involved a large chicken slaughterhouse and most cases involved foreigners.
Pahang recorded eight new cases while Selangor, Johor and Malacca saw one new case each.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said the 24-hour period ending noon today saw 70 Covid-19 patients being discharged.
There are currently 1,356 active cases. Only 16 patients require intensive care. Of this number, only four require ventilators.
There was one death attributed to Covid-19 during the same period.
The Malaysian, 39, male (identified as patient 6,780) with prior illnesses, died on May 12 at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Pahang.
On the death case, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the victim had been hospitalised for heart complications and broken legs, which he sustained in an accident early this year.
However, according to him, the victim was not infected with Covid-19 at the hospital and probably caught it at home.
"He was treated in the ward and had already suffered from valvular heart disease. And added with another infection (of Covid-19), so there are three complications.
"First is lung inflammation, followed by blood clotting phenomenon and low immunity. All these can lead to death at a young age," he said.
