Covid-19: 78 new cases, 1 death

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Malaysia has recorded 78 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, of which most involved foreigners.
According to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 25 cases involved Malaysians returning from abroad while 53 cases were local transmissions. Of the local transmissions, 40 cases involved foreigners.
This meant that there were 13 new cases that involved local transmissions among Malaysians.
Health Ministry data does not specifically state the locality of the new cases involving Malaysians.
However, from the data, it can be deduced that most of the new cases involving locals were in relation to the Sungai Lui cluster in Selangor.
Malaysiakini understands that the 11 new cases detected in Sungai Lui are from the Maahad Tahfiz An-Nabawiyyah cluster. They are being quarantined at a separate facility.
Negeri Sembilan detected 13 new infections - all imported cases. They were detected while under compulsory quarantine.
Noor Hisham also revealed that there were 12 new cases that were attributed to the Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur cluster.
This does not necessarily mean that these new cases were detected in Kuala Lumpur.
Of the 40 new cases involving foreigners, 25 were attributed to the Bukit Jalil immigration detention centre in Kuala Lumpur. All are Pakistani nationals.
In total, there are now 7,137 Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, of which 1,163 people are still being treated.
Nine patients require intensive care of which five are on ventilator support.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said a Malaysian male, 65, with Covid-19 passed away yesterday afternoon.
The patient (Case-3,616) has a history of other chronic illnesses and was treated at the Sungai Buloh hospital since April 3. - Mkini
