Covid-19: Negri Ruler pays tribute to frontline heroes

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has paid tribute to all those involved in the fight to stem the spread of Covid-19.
The Ruler expressed hope that Malaysians, irrespective of race and religion, would continue to show the same level of cooperation and spirit to help one another post-Covid-19.
"I am truly amazed and value the commitment and dedication of all frontliners as well as those behind the scenes who are giving their all to fight the virus.
"I am also proud of the commitment shown by the rakyat where many served as volunteers during this period and helped out in many ways," he said when opening the state assembly sitting here.
Tuanku Muhriz described the outbreak as historic as it proved that Malaysians were always prepared to help each another, irrespective of their race or faith.
The Ruler also commended the state government for initiatives taken to help the rakyat during the outbreak, especially those in the lower-income category.
The state government, had, among other measures, allocated RM18.7mil to help the people including the frontliners.
This included providing essential foodstuff and other items to 39,995 households, a RM300 one-off cash aid to 10,000 petty traders and hawkers as well as 3,333 taxi and e-hailing drivers.
The state government also paid out RM500 each to the families of individuals infected by Covid-19 and waived rent for March and April for 4,740 families occupying state-owned low-cost housing units.
Tuanku Muhriz said the state government had also approved 1,108 road maintenance projects involving RM269.4mil to help bumiputra contractors and another RM5mil for 65 other development projects.
"It is my hope that these initiatives will help more small contractors, including the bumiputra as well as other related businesses such as hardware, quarry and sand mining," he said.
The Ruler said he hoped the RM1,000 to be paid out by the state government to all state civil servants on May 8 involving a sum of RM6.4mil would also help reduce their burden during the movement control order.
"It is my hope that the state government will continue with the initiatives spelt out under the state 2020 Budget which will also help bridge the gap between the territories in the state.
"As such, the RM101.2mil allocated for development programmes tabled during the budget has to be quickly implemented," he said.
Tuanku Muhriz said planning and implementation of all state policies must be carried out responsibly and with integrity.
Efforts to safeguard the environment must also continue.
The Ruler also reminded all assemblymen that it was their responsibility to ensure the rakyat was their priority.
"You must make sure that every action or decision taken is in the interest and well-being of the rakyat and not for any personal gain," he added. - Star
