DAP Youth has endorsed the continued cooperation between PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
DAP Youth chief Howard Lee Chuan How said this in reference to a joint statement issued by the two leaders yesterday vowing to fight on after Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin took his party out of Pakatan Harapan, against Mahathir's wishes, to form a new Perikatan Nasional (PN) government with BN, PAS, GPS and other minor parties.
"We believe the continued cooperation between the two political leaders can spur the spirit of people and supporters who had worked hard to change the country's trajectory in the last two years," he said in a statement.
Lee (photo) said DAP Youth supports the Harapan presidential council led by Anwar as well as any leaders who are aligned with Harapan's reform agenda.
Harapan made history in the 2018 general election when it ousted BN after 61 years in power, amid allegations of grand corruption against then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
However, the Harapan government only lasted for 21 months.
The Harapan government collapsed in late February after Muhyiddin took Bersatu out of the coalition and joined forces with a group of PKR defectors led by former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.
Together with the opposition, they formed the new PN federal government.
Bersatu is presently split between Mahathir's faction and Muhyiddin's faction.
Mahathir had indicated he plans to wrest back control of the party in the next Bersatu election and withdraw the party from the PN government. - Mkini
