CORONAVIRUS | You either follow the Health Ministry's guidelines or stay at home.
This is the ultimatum given by Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to the public on complying with the conditional movement control order (MCO), which will start tomorrow.
Speaking at a press conference today, he said the relaxing of movement control requires cooperation from the people, on top of efforts carried out by the government and MOH to prevent the Covid-19 chain of infection.
"We have to make sure this together. So, everyone must comply with the standard operating procedures that had been set by MOH.
"Or, (if you don't want to comply), just stay at home to help break the chain of Covid-19 infection," he said.
Noor Hisham (photo) was responding to a request for his take on whether Malaysians have the level of social discipline to obey the rules and guidelines when conditional MCO starts tomorrow.
He added that it is also wrong for the public to think that the government has ended MCO.
According to him, provisions under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act are still in effect under conditional MCO.
"There is this perception that we have ended MCO. (Some think) that tomorrow we can celebrate because MCO is no longer in force.
"That is a wrong perception. MCO is still on. It is only that we are giving some relaxation, using criteria that are set by the World Health Organisation for ending movement control measures," he said.
On Friday, Prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the government has decided to allow for the reopening of the majority of businesses and social activities from Monday.
The conditional MCO, however, does not include businesses, operations, or any activities and events that would entail large gatherings, body contact and inability to maintain social distancing.
