GLC post not a lure to leave Umno, Tajuddin says will remain loyal

Malaysiakini

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has pledged to remain loyal to the party despite being politically appointed to head a GLC.

He also dismissed claims that the appointments of Umno leaders to GLCs were part of attempts by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to get them to join Bersatu instead.
"That's not true, I am among those given a GLC position but I remain with Umno.
"No matter happens I am an Umno man and I will defend Umno," said the newly- appointed Prasarana chairperson.
"Cooperating with Bersatu, PAS and others in Perikatan Nasional, we are still working together at this point.
"But to move from one party to another, for Umno people, I don't think so," he said when met after a visit to the Rapid KL depot at Bandar Sunway in Petaling Jaya today.
On the company's operations, Tajuddin said Prasarana, just like other public transportation providers, is feeling the pinch from reduced ridership throughout the movement control order period.
Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman claimed that political appointments among Umno leaders were part of a purported plan to expand Bersatu through enticing them to join.
The Muar MP further claimed the plan was revealed by Bersatu leaders who attempted to convince other Bersatu leaders that the party would not be sidelined in PN.
Among others, Saddiq in a Facebook live sessions last night, said the purported plan entails distributing positions to several Umno backbenchers - identified as those who appear close to Bersatu - and who have potential to be enticed to join the party.
Commenting further, Tajuddin described Saddiq's statement as one being made by someone who is "desperate".
"That's a statement of someone who is desperate [...] I personally do not think so," he said.
Critics ranging from PN's political rivals to prominent economists have spoken out against political appointments by Muhyiddin describing the process as an attempt to consolidate power amid challenges to the unelected government's legitimacy. - Mkini
