Act or face consequences - Bersatu grassroots warn disciplinary head

Malaysiakini

Two groups of Bersatu grassroots have threatened to report the party's disciplinary board head for failing to act on their complaints.
In a letter to board chairperson Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who is acting for the two groups, said the former has seven days to act and respond to their complaints.
Failure to do so would result in the groups lodging a complaint with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
One group, comprising 63 party members, have demanded that Najmuddin takes action against Bersatu organising secretary Capt (R) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya.
Suhaimi is alleged to have issued an invitation for a supreme council meeting scheduled for May 11 in a manner that contravened party rules.
Malaysiakini reported on May 10 that party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, among others, was not invited to the meeting.
The meeting was cancelled at the eleventh hour.
The second group of 59 members had demanded that Najmuddin investigates party president Muhyiddin Yassin for offering himself as prime minister.
This act was allegedly against the Feb 24 decision by the supreme council to endorse Mahathir as prime minister.
The group also accused Muhyiddin of engineering Bersatu's withdrawal from Pakatan Harapan to form a new government without seeking permission from the party's national assembly.
The complaints by the two groups were filed on May 10 and May 12 respectively.
According to Hanif's letter, the disciplinary board had not taken action or communicated with the complainants.
Since Mahathir's first reign as prime minister in the 1980s, the courts are not allowed to intervene in the affairs of political parties.
All arbitration matters must be handled internally or by the ROS.
The ROS is a regulatory body under the Home Ministry, which is helmed by Bersatu's secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin, whose position in the party is also in dispute. - Mkini
