CORONAVIRUS | Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today advised those celebrating Hari Raya to protect the elderly from possible Covid-19 infection by observing the guidelines imposed by the ministry.
"When there are guests visiting, make sure we protect the elderly by adhering to the guidelines.
"Practice the use of hand sanitiser before entering the house and observe the social distancing," Noor Hisham said in a media conference in Putrajaya today.
He reminded the public that senior citizens are exposed to a higher risk of succumbing to Covid-19.
"If we look at the number of deaths (109), more than 50 percent consisted of those aged 60 and above, and much riskier for patients who suffer more than one complication.
"If we are aware of this data, we would make sure that we protect the elderly," he said.
Commenting on up to 20 people being allowed for Hari Raya visits at any one time, Noor Hisham (photo) said the figure is relative.
"The figure is relative based on the number of members in a family. If it includes children and grandchildren, maybe the number of the family is 20.
"What is important is to observe the guideline which is social distancing," he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said visiting among neighbours and family members will be allowed but with a maximum of 20 people at one time.
Muhyiddin had also advised against open houses or big receptions.
The conditional movement control order, which is to expire tomorrow, has been extended to June 9.
