Idris Haron denies plotting to quit Malacca PN

Malaysiakini

Sungai Udang Umno assemblyperson Idris Haron today brushed off speculation that he plotted a defection with several Umno assemblypersons in Malacca.
Idris (photo), who is also state exco member, expressed satisfaction over his current position as a government member who “holds an important portfolio”.
“Nowadays, (there are) many crazy people... they like to see fractions in Umno.
“I wasted two good years when I was the Opposition leader. There was nothing much I could do then. But now we are doing our work well.
“You can tell the crazy people (who made the allegations) that Idris is obsessed with his post now.
“I am passionate about what I am doing now,” said Idris when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
He also denied that he contacted several Umno representatives regarding the issue of defection.
“We never had private communication with each other. All things are discussed in our common WhatsApp group, we do not have subgroups,” he claimed.
Earlier today, an Umno source claimed that the former Malacca chief minister who has a long-time discord with the current state assembly speaker, Abdul Rauf Yusoh, has been unsatisfied with the latter for controlling government affairs since PN took over Malacca.
Abdul Rauf, who is also Malacca Umno chief, purportedly dominated the state political resources and positions and gained more power after he was appointed state assembly speaker.
Therefore, it is believed that Idris was deeply dissatisfied and plotted to quit PN, the source claimed.
Idris admitted that he did hear some people say that Abdul Rauf has the bigger say in the state government.
“Yes, I did hear that but for me, I have yet to see if it is happening or not.
“But there have been a lot of people who have said so,” he said.
However, Idris rebuked the claims and reminded party members that the BN era has ended.
Instead, he said the political appointments should be given proportionately according to the strength of parties among the PN coalition.
“That’s why some Umno people started to talk bad about me, saying that I had weakened the party.
“But this is something we need to remember, we are not like what we were before. The BN era is over, we cannot think that we are still the dominant party,” he lamented.
He added that PN is a marriage of convenience which the utmost purpose is to be the governing party.
“We cannot take all the positions, we have to move forward and this must be proportionately assigned to these parties,” he added.
Malaysiakini has contacted Abdul Rauf and is awaiting a response.  - Mkini
