Former higher education minister Idris Jusoh has been appointed the chairperson of Felda, effective May 1.
In a statement today, Felda announced that Idris (above) would be replacing Mohd Bakke Salleh, who is now the chairperson of Telekom Malaysia.
"On behalf of the board of directors, the management, staff as well as Felda settlers, we welcome the appointment of Idris," said the authority's director-general Othman Omar.
"We are confident that with Idris' experience and leadership, Felda's revival efforts will continue and be further expedited," he added.
The Besut MP is the latest political appointment made by the Perikatan Nasional government.
This week saw Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman being appointed to Prasarana, while Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid has been put in charge of Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
Meanwhile, Othman thanked Bakke (photo) for his time as Felda chairperson.
"Bakke was fully committed towards bringing a variety of reforms and recovery strategies, especially in carrying out transformation plans outlined in the Felda white paper.
"His commitment is exemplary for the Felda community to continue to strive for excellence and sustainable growth," he said.
The Felda White Paper, tabled in Parliament on April 2019, had highlighted among others, several questionable deals that have pushed the organisation's finances to a critical state.
These include the questionable purchase of hotels, as well as Felda's overpaying to buy shares in Indonesia's Eagle High Plantations. - Mkini
