MELAKA: A musical parody made from footage of a ruckus that took place in the Melaka Assembly has gone viral on social media.
Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong said the incident has brought shame to the august House.
He said the derogatory words used during the Monday (May 11) assembly had been converted into a parody and the videos are being circulated on social media.
"I myself received the video from 13 unknown individuals through WhatsApp, including one from Taiwan," he said on Thursday (May 14).
Low said the argument between Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee and him during the assembly was remixed into a meme.
"It's very embarrassing to watch the parody and I regret engaging in an argument on that day," said the DAP lawmaker.
He said he was provoked at that point of time, which that led to the outburst.
Low said the original footage of the argument had also gone viral.
Norhizam also claimed he was provoked, which led to the use of coarse language.
"I was provoked from the start and I didn't utter any derogatory remarks at them.
"I only reacted to defend myself against such abuse," he said.
Norhizam said he had also received brickbats for his choice of words.
The one-day Melaka state assembly on May 11 saw a chaotic start when former speaker Datuk Wira Omar Jaafar, who is aligned to Pakatan Harapan, adjourned the assembly following a ruckus on the motion to appoint a new speaker by Perikatan Nasional lawmakers.
Perikatan later reconvened another sitting and appointed Melaka Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as the Speaker in the absence of the Opposition bloc.
Melaka has 28 state assemblymen with 17 from Perikatan following the collapse of the Pakatan-led state government on March 2. - Star
