Kuah rep now says no SD against Mukhriz, to seek Dr M’s advice

Malaysiakini

In a surprise turn, Kuah assemblyperson Mohd Firdaus Ahmad has revealed that he has yet to sign any statutory declaration (SD) expressing a loss of confidence in Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
Instead, the Bersatu politician said he will meet with party chairperson and Mukhriz’s father Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya this afternoon before making a final decision on the matter.
“I have not signed (any SD) yet.
“I will meet Mahathir first to hear his advice and seek his blessing.
“I will decide after my meeting with Mahathir,” Firdaus (above) said when contacted.
Two days ago, he told Malaysiakini that he was one of the four Bersatu representatives who had withdrawn support for Mukhriz and backed the formation of a Perikatan Nasional (PN) government in Kedah "in line with the direction and instructions from the party”.
Kedah PAS previously claimed that 23 out of 36 assemblypersons had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership.

PAS also claimed to have presented SDs from all 23 assemblypersons to the Kedah palace proposing that state ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Badlishah appoint a new menteri besar.
In response, Mukhriz dismissed the coup and vowed to carry on with his duties unless told otherwise by the Kedah palace.
The Bersatu deputy president has since branded assemblypersons from his party who turned against him as traitors
Mukhriz and Mahathir are at odds with party president Muhyiddin Yassin, and have refused to cooperate with the latter’s PN federal government.
After Pakatan Harapan’s collapse in February, Mukhriz decided to maintain a Bersatu-Harapan government in Kedah rather than work with Umno and PAS.
Reps to meet sultan tomorrow?
Meanwhile, Harian Metro reported that the 23 assemblypersons calling for a PN state government are expected to have an audience with the Kedah ruler at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar tomorrow.
Quoting anonymous sources, the article said that the sultan wants to hear from each assemblyperson before making any decisions.
Rather than SDs, Mukhriz has proposed the matter be decided through a no-confidence vote against him in a state legislative assembly sitting. - Mkini
