LOU - Returning M’sians need not visit missions, online facility available

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Citizens abroad intending to return home need not travel to the nearest Malaysian missions to obtain their Covid-19 quarantine payment letter of undertaking (LOU) required prior to travel.
Instead, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the LOU can be downloaded from various government websites and the whole process can be completed online.
Speaking at his daily press conference in Putrajaya today, the senior minister said, however, the form must be completed no later than three days before their travel date to Malaysia.
“Many Malaysians feel they need to go to our high commissions, but that is not true. They can download the LOU online, and e-mail the documents needed together with the completed LOU to the Malaysian mission representatives no later than three days before departure,” he said.
This came after it was announced that Malaysians and their spouses returning home must undergo two-weeks of quarantine at a government facility or allocated hotel upon arrival.
Beginning June 1, Malaysians must pay 50 percent of the RM150 per day quarantine cost with the government footing the remaining RM75  per day cost. Foreign spouses, however, must foot their entire bill.
Speaking today, Ismail said the LOU can be downloaded from Wisma Putra and Natural Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) websites from today.
The letter will also be made available on the official portals of the Health Ministry, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, the Transport Ministry and the Immigration Department soon.
“Another reason you must inform your mission (of intention to return to Malaysia) is so we can ensure there are enough places in the quarantine centres [...] the (returnees) will be asked to pay once they arrive at the hotel,” he added.
He said this was to prevent a repeat of the situation in Sabah where quarantines couldn't be done due to insufficient space. - Mkini
