Now Nine Kedah div chiefs dismiss loyalty pledge to Mahathir, Mukhriz

Malaysiakini

In a tit-for-tat move against their own party comrades, nine Kedah Bersatu division chiefs have come out to dismiss a party statement which pledged loyalty to Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his son Mukhriz.
The nine (five seen above) said the statement issued by seven state chiefs was "untrue and does not represent the stand" of the Kedah divisions.
According to the nine, the statement was made by only three out of the Kedah Bersatu 15 division chiefs.
"We are the majority of the division chiefs who fully support party president Muhyiddin Yassin as chairperson.
"We also fully support the Bersatu central leadership who had decided to exit Pakatan Harapan and set up a Perikatan Nasional coalition," the group said in a statement.
This morning, several division chiefs led by Bersatu Kedah deputy chairperson Anuar Abdul Hamid expressed regret with certain individuals in the party for going against Mahathir and Mukhriz.
"In their hurry to support Muhyiddin (party president and prime minister), these individuals were willing to propose a motion to sack Mahathir as party chairperson and Mukhriz as head of Kedah," the statement said.
"It must be reminded that at the height of the leadership crisis, Mahathir's resignation had been rejected," the leaders added.
The group of nine have refuted the claim that Mahathir was removed as party chairperson, saying such remarks were "a lie".
They pointed out that Mahathir resigned as Bersatu chairperson on Feb 24 as he no longer had the support of the party's supreme council members.
On Feb 25, the nine said, Mahathir had then issued a special video message that the party had decided to leave Pakatan Harapan.
The group recalled that since Mahathir had resigned as chairperson, Muhyiddin became acting chairperson until the party's internal polls which have now been postponed due to Covid-19.
"Therefore, the statement that Mahathir was fired is a lie. He resigned and no one forced him to do so," said the group of nine.
The nine who signed the statement were Kedah Bersatu division chiefs Muhammad Amri (Pokok Sena), Shamsul Naim (Kuala Kedah), Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan (Sik), Khairul Annuar Ramli ( Padang Serai), Syed Fadzil Syed Embun (Padang Terap), Mohd Faisal Tajuddin (Sungai Petani), Taufik Yaakob (Baling), Abd Razak Khamis (Pendang) and Suhaimi Abdullah (Jerai).
Mahathir and Muhyiddin are at loggerheads since the latter took over as prime minister in March after forming Perikatan Nasional with Umno and PAS MPs.
The feud cost Mukhriz Mahathir the Kedah menteri besar's post when two PKR and four Bersatu assemblypersons switched their allegiances to Muhyiddin.
A letter from the Registrar of Societies has also declared that Mahathir is no longer chairperson of Bersatu but his supporters have rejected the letter. - Mkini
