Penang, Pahang, Malacca record highest conditional MCO compliance rate - Ismail

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Penang, Pahang and Malacca have recorded the highest conditional movement control order (MCO) compliance rate at 98 percent, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
He said the national compliance average was 95 percent while the state with the worst performance recorded an 86 percent compliance rate yesterday.
The minister, however, did not name the state with the worse performance.
In his daily press conference today, Ismail (photo) said this was based on 70,237 inspections conducted across the country yesterday by the police-led compliance task force.
Of these, 5,022 supermarkets, 4,092 restaurants, 1,255 factories, 3,482 banks, 2,062 public markets, 3,606 places of worship, 1,397 places of leisure and 359 construction sites were inspected.
“Inspections were also conducted at 954 land transport terminals, 172 sea transport terminals and 72 air transport terminals,” he said in Putrajaya today.
In addition, 34,840 private vehicles, and 3,175 public vehicles were checked.
Previously, the country was placed under the MCO since March 18, which entailed a shutdown of all non-essential businesses and activities, in a bid to contain the Covid-19 infections.
However, this was eased this month with more businesses and activities allowed to resume, albeit under strict conditions.
Meanwhile, Ismail said 14,496 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine at some 229 centres, as at 8am today.
This includes 625 Malaysians who returned from abroad.
Overall, 32,692 Malaysians have returned to the country and have been quarantined since April 3, with 24,798 completing the two-week quarantine period and were permitted to return to their homes. - Mkini
