IPOH: A 30-year-old man rammed his car into the gates of Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar before pointing a toy gun at policemen manning the entrance.
Kuala Kangsar OCPD Asst Comm Razali Ibrahim said in the 7.40am incident on Monday (May 25), the man from Gerik was asked by policemen at the palace gate to turn his White Myvi around when he tried to enter palace grounds.
He said the man got back into his car, reversed it, and then at a fast speed, crashed it into the gate causing the chain and lock to come off.
“He went some 60m inside the compound of the palace, with our personnel chasing after him on motorcycles.
“After his vehicle stopped, he pointed a toy gun at the police, before a struggle ensued, and the suspect was arrested,” he told a press conference here later Monday.
ACP Razali said initial investigations revealed the man, a lorry driver by trade, drove all the way from Gerik and had also violated a police roadblock at the district there.
He said the suspect also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“He claimed 'someone' had called him to come to the palace as the 'Sultan' wanted to meet him.
“Of course that was not the case, otherwise the guards would have been aware (of such an invitation), and also the Ruler is not at the palace at the moment,” he added.
He said the man is married with two children.
“He will be remanded for a few days for further investigations before the case is referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing the duties of civil servants, Section 427 for committing mischief, Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1971, and Section 447 for trespassing. - Star
