PKR Srikandi chief Nurainie Haziqah Shafii has resigned from the party, quitting all party posts and resigning from her position as Petaling Jaya city council member.
"I have made the decision to resign and quit as a member of PKR because I no longer have confidence and belief in the idealism of the struggle and of the party's direction today."
"As such, I have also resigned as Petaling Jaya city council member. This decision is made on principle as I was appointed to the position in my capacity as a member of PKR."
Aside from the council post and her position heading Srikandi, PKR's wing for young women, Nurainie was also an elected member of the party's women's wing, which is another position she has resigned from.
She thanked all of those who had voted her in the party elections as well as Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohd Sayuthi bin Bakar,
"I pledge to continue serving the people and the country through the platform and I am committed to helping the needy through my capacity as a lawyer," said Nurainie who recalled her roots as a student and NGO activist.
PKR has been hit by a series of resignations, defections and expulsions ever since the party's former deputy president Azmin Ali helped trigger the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government of prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, by leaving the party with nine MPs in tow.
This week, the resignation of PKR's Sidam representative Dr Robert Ling Kui Ee and Lunas representative Azman Nasrudin proved the catalyst for the fall of the Kedah state administration led by Mahathir's son Mukhriz. - Mkini
