CORONAVIRUS | Covid-19 tests in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor under the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) free Prihatin Screening Programme (PSP) will prioritise testing for certain target populations only, effective tomorrow.
Human Resources Minister M Saravanan (photo) said this is to focus testing efforts on migrant workers in the construction and private security sectors in the two jurisdictions.
“The tests will only be performed through appointments by the companies concerned with the Sosco’s appointed PSP service provider. The tests can be done whether at the worksite or at the service providers’ premises.
“Therefore, all appointments that have already been made with Perkeso’s PSP service provider are postponed until further notice.
“The change is in line with the government’s latest directive to focus Covid-19 testing on migrant workers in the two sectors. It is also in line with the Health Ministry’s guidance to conduct targeted tests on at-risk groups,” he said in a statement today.
The PSP open to all 298,000 local and migrant workers registered under Socso, which is available in 39 locations as well as 120 mobile units nationwide.
BP Healthcare is the sole service provider appointed for the programme.
However, workers have complained of difficulties in getting tested and delays in receiving results, while the Malaysian Medical Association said the government’s flip-flop in PSP’s implementation has caused confusion. - Mkini
