PETALING JAYA: Umno and PAS leaders have come out to express their full support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister following a special meeting Thursday (May 14).
"Muafakat Nasional held a special meeting today on May 14 which was attended by the presidents, deputy presidents, vice-presidents and secretary-generals from both parties.
"Muafakat Nasional has agreed to give its undivided support to the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin," said the joint statement issued by Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
In line with this, they said that all Umno and PAS lawmakers would give their support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.
Out of 222 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, Umno has 39 and PAS has 18.
The joint statement by Umno and PAS comes in the wake of recent proposals for a motion of no confidence by Langkawi MP Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Batu Sapi MP Datuk Liew Vui Keong against Muhyiddin last week.
Dr Mahathir's motion was accepted by Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof but he did not specify when it would be tabled.
He also did not state if Liew's motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin was rejected.
Parliament is to sit for a one-day meeting on May 18, to be opened by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The one-day sitting will only centre on the King's Royal Address. -Star
I hope His majesty says mukhriz stays and dont rock the boat till next GE. His Majesty wants continuity not change of govt when MPs feel like it after being voted in by the people. Those who intend to jump can be Independents.
