PJ police chief touches netizens' hearts with visit to elderly woman's home

Malaysiakini

Petaling Jaya police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal has brightened an elderly woman's day, whom he last met 30 years ago, with a surprise visit to her house this morning.
Nik Ezanee told Malaysiakini that he had last met the octogenarian, known as Ah Siong, 30 years ago.

He further told Malaysiakini that the octogenarian had always bought him a pack of pau (steamed bun) when he was small and today he brought pau for her during the visit.
"She worked as a supervisor at my parents’ company in Seapark.
"She would always buy me pandan-flavoured pau if she knew that I was coming to the office.
"The other day, my parents told me that Ah Siong is still alive, so I decided to visit her," he said.
A clip shared on the Petaling Jaya district police Facebook page today shows the lady greeting Nik Ezanee at her house. He's seen holding a plastic bag filled with pau.
He's heard telling his officer: "Now that I can afford to buy my own pau, I'm going to send some to her."
The lady welcomed him into the house where she brought out a box filled with paper cuttings of Nik Ezanee.
The clip has garnered more than 5,000 likes, and at least 1,000 comments from netizens who were touched by his efforts.
Nik Ezanee told Malaysiakini that he was delightfully surprised to learn that Ah Siong had been following his updates.
"She still remembered me. She read about me in the Chinese newspaper and kept all the news related to me.
"That took me by surprise," he said.
For the record, Nik Ezanee reported for duty as the Petaling Jaya police chief in February this year.
Nik Ezanee said the elderly people are close to his heart.
"They belong in a high-risk group during the time of Covid-19.
"Two days ago (June 15), I had a meeting with some Petaling Jaya folks. Many of the residents in Petaling Jaya are elderly.
"I shared the importance of hygiene and shared about safety awareness.
"I reminded them to be careful with strangers as the elderly are easy targets," he added. - Mkini
