Amirudin to resume Selangor NSC chair post tomorrow

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari will resume his position to chair the state's National Security Council (NSC) beginning tomorrow, according to reports.

This follows a decision made during a federal-level NSC meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob this morning.

"I was contacted by the (federal) NSC to once again chair the Selangor NSC. I will get to work immediately and wish to request all parties, including the opposition, to coordinate the recovery process from now," said Amirudin, as quoted by portal Free Malaysia Today.

Amirudin said he was contacted to discuss the management of the post-flood recovery efforts, about a month since being informed that the state chairperson position he originally held was handed to a federal minister.

'Position lost to Noh Omar'

Taking to Twitter, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's political secretary Syahredzan Johan revealed that Amirudin initially lost the position to Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar, who is also entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister.

“Although not stated, apparently the chairperson of the Selangor NSC since November is Noh Omar.

“Why did the PM change the convention of the state NSC chairperson like this?" Syahredzan asked.

Given Noh's position at the time, Syahredzan also questioned the lack of urgent action following the flood situation which escalated on Saturday.

"Why didn’t the (then) Selangor NSC chairperson call for a state-level NSC meeting?" he said.

Sinar Harian earlier reported that Noh had visited flood victims seeking shelter at the Kampung Bestari Jaya community hall, despite the venue not being on the list of gazetted shelters.

Noh, who delivered aid from Tanjung Karang Umno, said those who chose to remain at the hall instead of moving to the nearest government shelter will not qualify for RM1,000 cash assistance. - Mkini
