Anwar puzzled why Sarawak's poorest brownnose reps who leave them in poverty

SARAWAK POLLS | PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is both disappointed and puzzled by some Sarawak voters, whom he claims still brownnose elected representatives who have left them in poverty.

While campaigning in Beting Maro today, he said the local Pusa district is one the poorest in the country, despite being in one of the richest states.

"Sarawak is among the richest states in Malaysia. But its people, especially in Pusa, are among the poorest in the country.

"But when the YB comes 'ahak, ahak, ahak'," he said with a fake laugh while acting out someone kissing hands.

"What kind of human is this?" he asked.

Anwar was speaking at a futsal court in Kampung Hilir Pusa while stumping for acting state PKR chief Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh, who is contesting the Beting Maro seat.

Anwar chided that the roads to Pusa were so bad that he wondered whether he would need to get on a sampan to reach his destination.

However, he said elected representatives who only serve themselves instead of the people can come from any race.

"Those who steal our rights, they can be the Peninsular folks, Melanau, even Ibans.

"They're all the same, when they get elected, they pillage like mad. They are YBs, but their job is to pillage," he said.

As such, he said voters should not let the state election be a contest between "timber tycoons" who don't care for the voters.

"One gang of timber tycoons support GPS, another supports PSB.

"We, who get absolutely nothing, are asked to choose one of them.

"I say no. Reject both of them. Support PKR," he said. He was greeted by cheers from the 100 people in attendance.

"The poorest district is picking rich parties. Don't do that. The poorest district must rise and voice out," he added.

There are five candidates vying for the Beting Maro seat, but it is largely expected to mainly be a contest between GPS and PAS.

PAS won 38.5 percent of the vote in the seat in 2016.

Amanah, meanwhile, just won 1.3 percent votes in the seat that year. PKR has replaced Amanah as Pakatan Harapan's representative in the seat.

Despite the odds, Anwar said he hoped PKR would win, and losing in Beting Maro would be very disappointing. - Mkini
