PETALING JAYA: Former deputy transport minister and Sri Gading MP Ab Aziz Kaprawi, who is being treated for Covid-19, is expected to be put in a medically-induced coma today, according to his brother Khir Johari Kaprawi.
Khir told FMT that the doctor treating Aziz had told him that his brother’s oxygen level is unstable because of minor lung damage.
He said Aziz had asked for the procedure to be postponed to Tuesday “since he believes that he is still doing well”. Khir added: “We are hoping for a miracle that he would not be placed under that procedure.”
Aziz, 62, was admitted to hospital in Batu Pahat on Dec 15 after he and his wife Sabariah Tokimin were found to be Covid-19 positive. Sabariah is currently undergoing home quarantine.
A medically-induced coma is a temporary coma that results in a shutdown of most brain activity. It is a procedure of last resort.
Aziz was elected as MP for Sri Gading in 2013 but failed to secure re-election. He was the deputy transport minister in Najib Razak’s government and was previously the state assemblyman for Parit Raja, Johor, and a state executive councillor for two terms. - FMT
