Hulu Kinta assemblyperson Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad (above) brought an unusual exhibit into the Perak state assembly during debates regarding the price of basic necessities.
Holding up the raw, whole poultry, he told fellow assemblypersons that people are unhappy with the rising price of goods.
He also brought a receipt to show the price of the chicken and that it was brought in Gunung Semanggol, Perak.
“This is a gift to (Gunung Semanggol assemblyperson Razman Zakaria) since the receipt for the chicken is from Gunung Semanggol.
“The receipt shows, for the speaker’s information, that before Dec 7 poultry was being sold in (Gunung) Semanggol for more than RM10,” he said.
He said although the maximum price of poultry has since been reduced, it is still a burden on the people.
Arafat said he had to bring the fresh poultry to the assembly chambers due to inaction by the state exco member concerned.
“What has he done as an exco? Was there any meeting, dialogue with the retailers? Was there dialogue with the producers?
“Was there meeting and dialogue with distributors to see the people’s problem?” he questioned.
During the debate, the voice of another assemblyperson was heard interjecting, “Put down the chicken, go home and cook rendang.” - Mkini
