Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim has been admitted to hospital due to severe gastritis, a condition he has suffered from for several years.
In a Facebook post, Sim said he was initially advised by doctors to undergo immediate surgery last week, but tried to hold out for another week to finish the ongoing parliamentary session first.
"Unfortunately, three days ago the situation became very bad and the doctor advised me to go to the hospital immediately. Originally I thought I could survive again, but yesterday I had to also check-in into the “workshop” at 10 pm.
“I apologize very much to the people of Bukit Mertajam because I could not attend the special session on Monday.
"This is the first time I have not attended parliament due to illness during the eight years I have served as an elected representative," he said in a post on Facebook this morning.
He has been suffering from the disease for many years and sometimes he does daily activities such as going to work, making constituency visits and attending meetings while enduring the pain.
“Even though I am on sick leave, I will ensure that all complaints at the service centre will be followed up with immediate action.
"My team is also ready in the event of any flood disaster in Bukit Mertajam given the unpredictable weather conditions," he said. - -Mkini
