Aide: There was no Azmin-PKR meet

Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali's office has refuted a news report claiming that he attended a meeting with PKR leaders last week.

In a statement today, Azmin's political secretary Muhammad Hilman Idham blamed a "PKR-influenced" news organisation for spreading speculation.

"I strongly deny that Azmin met and held discussions with any PKR leaders as reported by a PKR-influenced news portal.

"I believe this speculation was conjured as part of a malicious strategy to create doubt and suspicion among Bersatu (members) and Perikatan Nasional (parties) on Azmin's commitments," Hilman said.

The Gombak Setia assemblyperson added that Azmin had already publicly stated his commitment to the Bersatu agenda.

Therefore, he said Azmin and his supporters have no intention of returning to PKR because that party "worships" a greedy human with dictatorial tendencies.

Senior Minister Azmin Ali

Last Friday, Malaysiakini reported that Azmin met two PKR leaders for an hour at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Wednesday (June 15).

Azmin did not deny that the meeting took place when asked by reporters in Balik Pulau, Penang yesterday.

G10, Sheraton Move

Azmin and nine other MPs - collectively known in political circles as the G10 - left PKR in February 2020 in a series of events known as the Sheraton Move, which caused the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration.

The Sheraton Move referred to a dinner event hosted by Bersatu and MPs loyal to Azmin to signal a new political alignment with those who oppose Harapan.

Eventually, the G10 joined Bersatu either as full members or affiliates.

So far, two G10 members - Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin and Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin - have announced their departure from Bersatu. - Mkini
