PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has promised a group of Orang Asli activists that he will raise their plight in the Dewan Rakyat.
This followed a visit by a delegation comprising of Orang Asli folks from Bera, Gua Musang, Tapah, Tanjung Malim and Hulu Selangor.
They were accompanied by former senator Manolan Mohamad, an Orang Asli activist and PKR member.
"They told me of the perennial problems that they faced, especially on matters concerning land (ownership), their rights, quality of education, the (lack of) development and logging issues faced in their villages.
"They also presented several memorandums which I will study and (articulate) their concerns in the Dewan Rakyat, alongside other MPs," wrote Anwar on his Facebook page.
Manolan is a Orang Asli from Bera, Pahang. He was appointed senator during the Pakatan Harapan administration. His term ended in August 2021.
The Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to hold its second meeting of the year on July 18.
Recently, Orang Asli activists have been protesting against the construction of the Nenggiri Dam in Kelantan which would flood large swathes of foraging land for the local indigenous communities. - Mkini
