Umno leaders should be ashamed of open infighting at a time when the public is suffering due to the increase in the cost of living, said Tanjung Bersatu chief Mohamad Kamal Fairos Mohamad Ibrahim.
“Umno, leaders who are currently going back and forth via social media about party infighting should be ashamed.
“They have been arguing through the media about demotions, potential demotions, and who isn’t getting demoted, and should be ashamed of themselves as they are using an open platform to debate about what should be an internal matter.
“Umno leaders like this are far removed from the issues that affect the general public.
“If they want to bring shame to the party in front of the many people, the least they could do is use party Telegram or WhatsApp groups,” he said in a statement today.
Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi sacked Tajuddin Abdul Rahman from the Umno Supreme Council on June 21 due to unstated reasons.
Tajuddin had been elected as a member of the Supreme Council back in 2018.
On June 24, Ketereh Umno chief Annuar Musa, who is not a member of the Supreme Council, stated that this sacking would lead the party towards crisis and disarray.
The Communications and Multimedia Minister also said he expected that more Supreme Council members might be demoted.
Nevertheless, Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi refuted Annuar’s statement that the sacking of Supreme Council members was barely done by any of the previous Umno presidents.
“Annuar Musa himself has been sacked as the head of information. It also happened to Ahmad Maslan and Shamsul Nasarah. Yet there was no crisis within the party,” stated Puad. - Mkini
