Police confirmed that they received a report over allegations of logging that occurred in the Nenggiri Permanent Forest Reserve, Gua Musang, Kelantan.
Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo confirmed the matter when contacted by Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, Save Kelantan chairperson Husam Musa revealed a copy of the police report on the incident made by a forest ranger on June 2.
Following that, Husam in a Facebook post today also suggested that Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob visit the location.
“The Kelantan menteri besar was in Kampung Star, Nenggiri, Gua Musang this morning to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nenggiri Dam.
“I suggest that the menteri besar enter the location of the logging at the Nenggiri forest reserve after the groundbreaking ceremony. Since you are there, show a responsible attitude towards the property and treasures of the people and the state of Kelantan.
“There should be no favouritism in enforcing the law.
“Come and see for yourself whether there is a large-scale theft of logs there,” said Husam, who is also a former Kelantan senior exco.
He has been calling on the Kelantan government and the state’s Forestry Department to provide answers on alleged logging activities by a state-owned company at the Nenggiri Forest Reserve.
Husam made several Facebook postings claiming logging had been carried out at compartment 26 of the Nenggiri Forest Reserve - which is classified as a virgin jungle reserve.
The Amanah leader also claimed the logging concession had been awarded to Daulah Najah Sdn Bhd, a state-owned company.
Kelantan exco Hanipa Ahmad, who is also a Daulah Najah director, told Malaysiakini that there was no illegal logging in the area.
He said the location was part of the planned Nenggiri hydroelectric dam area, where logging was permitted. - Mkini
