GE15 soon? Loke wonders after DOs called in for briefing

PETALING JAYA: The 15th general election (GE15) may be around the corner, if recent actions by the Election Commission (EC) is anything to go by, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said.

The former transport minister said the EC had begun preparations for the next nationwide polls.

“District officers have been called in by the EC to attend a briefing on managing the general election, giving the impression that GE15 is inching closer,” he said in a statement tonight.

District officers traditionally play the part of returning officers.

In May, the EC said a circular calling for election agents to train ahead of the general election was not a sign that polls are imminent.

EC deputy chairman Azmi Sharom said such training was continuous and could happen at any time of the year, and the same went with identifying polling centres earlier on.

DAP names election directors

Loke said voters had a lot of expectations for DAP as it was part of an opposition bloc which had the experience in administering the country.

“So we need to find a way to resolve issues faced by the people, including the rising cost of goods.”

The party also unveiled the election directors for the respective states and federal territories.

They are Teh Seng Chuan (Perlis), Tan Kok Yew (Kedah), Lim Hui Ying (Penang), Chong Zhemin (Perak), Ng Sze Han (Selangor), Lim Lip Eng (Federal Territories), Cha Kee Chin (Negeri Sembilan), Cassel Krishnan (Melaka), Chen Kah Eng (Johor), Lee Chin Chen (Pahang), Lee Yoke Pin (Kelantan), Cheong Siow Foon (Terengganu), Ling Chai Yew (Sarawak) and Phoong Jin Zhe (Sabah). - FMT
