Jamal proposes Zafrul as Selangor Umno's poster boy

Selangor Umno has been urged to make Finance MInister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz its poster boy in the state if state Umno chief Noh Omar gives his blessings.

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos (above, left) said this is because Umno needs a young leader with calibre for the next general election.

"Umno needs more young leaders with calibre, who have the trust of the people and can offer extraordinary changes in Selangor, what more someone who holds a ministerial post at the federal level.

"Finance minister and senator Zafrul is among leaders whose name is on many lips, and he has also gone to the ground to engage with the people in Kuala Selangor.

"If the Kuala Selangor-born man is accepted by Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh, then Zafrul should be made the poster boy of Selangor BN in the 15th general election," Jamal said in a statement.

On May 27, Malaysiakini reported that Umno Sungai Besar is prepared to "open a path" for Tengku Zaful to become active at the division if he intends to contest on the BN ticket in the next polls.

However, Jamal noted that this does not mean Zafrul will be BN's candidate in Sungai Besar, as the final decision is in the hands of the top leadership.

"I encourage Zafrul to base himself in Selangor. If older divisions are not keen on him, Sungai Besar Umno is open to accepting him.

"Candidate matters are up to the leadership to decide, but I am opening room for him to move actively to support Selangor Umno, so he can contest in any seat in Selangor," he told Malaysiakini.

Meanwhile, Jamal said the Malacca and Johor elections showed that new, fresh faces free from controversy had found their way into the hearts of voters.

He said the same formula should be used in the general polls to meet what voters want.

"This is what is demanded today, and we see people are starting to return their trust to BN as the coalition which is able to deliver on its manifesto of stability in politics and administration," he said. - Mkini
