Kelantan MACC reviewing exposé on logging in Nenggiri forest reserve

The Kelantan MACC has received information on the alleged misappropriation and theft of logs at the Nenggiri Permanent Forest Reserve (NPFR) in Gua Musang.

State commission director Rosli Husain said they were in the midst of reviewing the information.

"Kelantan MACC has received information and is reviewing it to determine if there are offences under the MACC Act," he told Malaysiakini today.

Previously, Save Kelantan chairperson Husam Musa claimed on social media that state government subsidiary Daulah Najah Sdn Bhd was logging within compartment 26 of the NPFR - which was previously gazetted as a virgin jungle reserve.

He also claimed that there was a “theft” of logs in the neighbouring compartment 25, which involved an estimated loss of up to RM5 million.

However, Husam claimed that the Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department had seized the logs, which had been placed near Daulah Najah’s temporary timber stockpile.

Kelantan exco Hanipa Ahmad - who is also a Daulah Najah director - had told Malaysiakini that there was no illegal logging in the area.

He said the location was part of the planned Nenggiri hydroelectric dam area, where logging was permitted.

Meanwhile, Rosli stressed that Kelantan MACC welcomes any information regarding corruption and abuse of power in this case. - Mkini
