KJ encourages 2nd booster in time for inevitable Covid-19 wave

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has encouraged those who qualify to take the second booster dose for their Covid-19 vaccination, in preparation for the next inevitable wave of the disease which he predicted will happen within two to three months.

Khairy said his prediction of another wave of Covid-19 infections is based on the epidemiological developments in other countries.

“The second booster dose is highly encouraged, especially for those who are aged 60 and above as well as those with chronic illness because we know that even though Covid-19 cases are under control now, as I’ve said many times, the cases will come and go, there will be waves that come from time to time.

“Maybe within two to three months, we will experience a new wave.

“As for how big the wave will be, we do not know yet, but what is certain is that based on the epidemiological development in other countries, the predicted wave will happen,” he said in a press conference at the Eastin Hotel in Petaling Jaya today.

The government had announced that several groups will be eligible for their second booster dose back in April, including individuals aged above 60 years old and those with high-risk comorbidities.

Covid-19 cases in the country had been hovering between 1,500 to slightly above 2,000 a day for the past 14 days, with June 19 recording no deaths for the first time in 18 months. - Mkini
