The issue of brain drain in Malaysia is often tied to NEP. This is no longer true. Professional Malays are also leaving Malaysia in large numbers. If you don’t believe me, go to Dubai, Perth and London. I have met some of them and they tell me there is no place for them in Malaysia because they cannot see a future in Malaysia, for themselves and their children. They are worried about the conservative trend among the Malay community and the closing of the Malay mind. There is no space for alternative ideas.
Do the Govt care? No because they know if these people stayed in Malaysia, they will likely agitate for reforms and oppose Govt policies. So better let them leave so they will be less opposition.
