Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has urged for more branches of the Protection Division to be established.
He said there need to be more nationwide branches of the division, which is under the Prime Minister’s Department, to enhance the effectiveness of the government’s witness protection programmes.
While the Protection Division has existed since 2009, he said, until now it has only one office in Putrajaya.
"Branches of the Protection Division based on zones and states, including in Sarawak, should be established immediately," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Witness Protection Programme Seminar in Kuching, Sarawak, today.
Wan Junaidi (above) said the Public Service Department (JPA) should give priority to additional manpower, logistics, and offices for the division.
The Ministry of Finance should also take into account the current needs and importance of witness protection programmes, he added.
